How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?
Our natural lashes have a growth cycle in which the lashes shed and regrow. Eyelash extensions last from 2-5 weeks as part of the normal lash cycle. How long the eyelash extension will last depends on your own natural eyelash growth and how well you take care of the extensions.
Do extensions damage my natural eyelashes?
NO! Extensions applied properly and safely do not damage your natural eyelashes. Wearing eyelash extensions is really no different than wearing mascara as far as your lash health is concerned.
Can I get eyelash extensions wet?
Yes, absolutely! Just not for the first 12 hours. The adhesive actually takes 24 hours to cure completely. Therefore, it is recommended that you don’t get them wet or get really sweaty during this time either. After that…swim, shower, get sweaty…no prob! You just have to remember to cleanse them after getting really sweaty to remove the body oils that are contained in that sweat.
Can I wear mascara with eyelash extensions?
First of all, you won't need to wear mascara! Wearing mascara with eyelash extensions is discouraged, because washing mascara off extensions without agitating the extensions is difficult, and may result in loss of some of your natural lashes. Also, because washing it off without disturbing the extensions is difficult, many end up with a build up of mascara residue on all the lashes (extension lashes and bare lashes) which make touch ups very arduous and therefore, pricey.
How do I take care of eyelash extensions?
You must not get any oils on your eye area (lotions, creams, sunscreens, hair shampoo or conditioners with oils...etc.) And...Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse! Daily cleansing with an OIL-FREE eyelid and lash cleanser will, not only, eliminate accumulated sloughed off skin cells (and body oils that can break down the extensions’ adhesive), it will help your extensions stay on longer, and it will also prevent that accumulated debris at the base of your lashes from potentially causing an eyelid infection.
How often will I need to get them maintained?
Touch ups are typically done every 2-3 weeks to replace those naturally shedding lashes and keep your lashes looking their best. Here's why... A healthy person sheds, on average, 2-5 eyelashes every day. This adds up to an average loss of 14-35 lashes per eye, per week. So... in a 2 week period of time you could shed up to 70 lashes (per eye, times 2 eyes = 140 lashes in 2 weeks)! An extension falls off when the natural lash it is attached to sheds. Eyelash shedding with extensions is more noticeable due to them being thicker and darker than your natural lashes.
What do I need to do before my eyelash extension application?
Arrive with very, very clean eyelashes and eyelids, with no creams or lotions on them, and remove contact lenses. Also do not have caffeine (coffee, tea or energy drinks) before the appointment...it can make your eyes involuntarily jittery.
What do I do during the eyelash application?
You will be lying down on a relaxing spa bed while your lashes are applied. So, you just relax with your eyes closed. Many clients actually fall asleep and catch a nice little cat nap!
